Economic Development and Investment Summit (Fountain Summit)

The Ekiti Economic Development and Investment Summit is an annual event, to showcase the State’s socio-economic progress, and position Ekiti State as an attractive destination for investors. The session will be hosted over one-day, and will have a keynote speaker, as well as a minimum of two panels to interrogate topical issues.

Programme

The 2021 edition, the first in the series, will explore the theme: “Investment Attractiveness and Economic Development – Lessons for Sub nationals.”

Event Schedule

Session 1: Development Lessons from Sub-nationals

The session will be led by a keynote address to be delivered by His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, SAN, the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In addition, the session will have a panel of Governors to discuss the keynote address by the session chairman, and share their insights and lessons from governing in sub-nationals, especially in the following areas:

  • Investment Promotion;
  • Revenue Generation;
  • Human Capital Development, especially education and healthcare;
  • Infrastructural Development;
  • Security.

Session 2: Investing in Ekiti State

This session will focus on the experience of investors in Ekiti. The investors will share the rationale for investing in Ekiti State, and their insights on the State’s competitive advantages, as well as areas of improvement. In addition to private investment, the session will also include insights on social investments, and how such investments improve the standard of living and overall economy, when successfully implemented. Finally, the session will share insight on what the State Government is doing to make Ekiti more attractive for investors.

Expected Outcomes

At the end of the summit, the recommendations from the keynote address, as well as the various panels will be collated and reviewed by the Ekiti State Economic Council, and subsequently presented to the Ekiti State Executive Council for adoption. These recommendations will cover how Ekiti State can:

  • Drive double digit economic growth over the next decade;
  • Attract the necessary private sector investment to drive economic growth;
  • Provide the necessary infrastructure to make the state attractive to investors;
  • Generate the required revenue to make the state less dependent on Federally distributed revenues;
  • Improve on the critical human development indicators to improve the quality of life for residents;
  • Leapfrog from its current position to become a top-5 sub-national economy in Nigeria.
